Good to know ... The Downhill (or DHI) is a fascinating and demanding discipline which is recognized by the International Cycling Union. Like the cross-country, this discipline has its own World Cup and its own World Championship. Its concept is very simple: the bikers must hurtle down a track as quickly as possible by adopting the best aerodynamic position. It is thus an individual race against the clock which is run on a descending profile scattered with natural obstacles. The chronometer is the only judge and the duration of the race lies between 2 and 5 minutes for a track the length of which varies between 1.500 metres and 3.500 metres. The very technical track favours the following parameters: speed and piloting. The evolution of the material which requires an important budget is constant: frame with double suspension, disc brakes, composite materials… The mandatory equipment consists of an integral crash helmet, a protection of the back, the knees and the elbows… and long gloves. Within the framework of the activities foreseen during the week-end of 1st and 2nd May, Houffalize will propose a downhill competition of Friday 30th April. A première in this city of the Ardennes. The track will link the football field (460m) and the secondary school (324m).

Year after yet the city of Houffalize proposes various novelties. This time, innovation will once again be on the programme. The Red Bull Downhill Cup, a very perilous exercice, will complete the agenda of the big MTB circus of Houffalize. The pilots of this extreme sport will bravely hurtle down the dizzy slopes of the Ourthe, and will deceive the trunks, roots and other hazardous rocks. They will compete with each other to reach, rapidly and victoriously, the foot of the podium.
This will definitely be a breathtaking show !
